British Exploring Society

A £5,000 ERSF grant to the British Exploring Society has enabled the charity to remain competitive in the market place by offering expeditions at a reasonable price.

British Exploring is the longest running organisation of its type, maintaining a pre-eminent position in the field of outdoor education and leadership development.

The charity’s Executive Director Lt Gen Peter Pearson said: “Apart from teaching our young explorers the hard skills in the field, our expedition leaders also serve as mentors, encouraging the softer personal skills and values that are integral to the important ‘inner journey’ that each young explorer makes.

“Our programmes work – they have an unambiguously positive impact on the young men and women that participate in them, encouraging them to embrace opportunities and make a positive difference to the world, with the confidence and self-esteem to do good things in the future.”
