Build a School

Tickbird Visitor Centre in Malawi – for the training of farmers and a women’s co-operative in fair trade crops – received a £10,000 boost thanks to the ERSF.

The grant was made to the organisation Build A School which is in the initial stages of forming the Fairtrade eesential oil co-operative and is training 10 women in a number of skills inlcuding snake irrigation.

These skills are then taken back to Msampha village where the women will be growing the crops on one of three pieces of land which the chief of the village has permitted Build A School to use. The organisation also runs two-day farmer training programmes with between eight and 20 farmers for each programme. A cheap vehicle has been purchased and modified for the Malawian terrain.
