Hope and Homes for Children

ERSF gave a £10,000 grant to Hope and Homes for Children to help them move babies from the Maygoma Baby Orphanage in Khartoum, Sudan into local foster homes – contributing to the closure of this infamous institution and the reform of Sudan’s childcare system.

In the last six months of 2008, HHC moved 120 babies and toddlers out of Maygoma. Of these, 11 went to their birth families as a result of intensive social work with young mothers and their extended families and 109 children were placed with carefully selected local foster families.

“The cost of this was £95,282 or £794 per child, so 13 young children have been given a new life thanks to the grant from the Erach and Roshan Sadri Foundation,” said an HHC spokesman. “Furthermore, the grant has moved us closer to the position of reforming childcare systems in Sudan whcih could save thousands of children from either an early death or a life within the confines of an institution without the love and security of a family, which is essential to their development and future life chances.”
